OSINT or Open Souce Intelligence, is a technique where publicly known information is researched and collected. You may have used OSINT with your group of friends once or twice when attempting to gather information about someone you like or doing your due diligence about a company before a job interview.
OSINT is not illegal nor is it nefarious. OSINT has been used to stop human trafficking, counter-terrorism, and curb exorbitant amounts of drug transactions.
However, OSINT can be used for the wrong reasons. In the case of the late rapper Pop Smoke, his demise was the result of OSINT used with malicious intent.
In February 2020, Pop Smoke rented out an Air BnB in California. During his stay in Cali, Pop Smoke and his closet comrade Mike Dee posted several pictures on their social media accounts.
In this chilling picture, you can see the entire address posted on the Amiri card. The address also matches the numbers on the side of the house in the picture below.
With a quick Google Maps search, the address is easy to find. As you can see, the cobblestones in front of the house match the cobblestones in Pop Smoke's pictures he posted on social media.
Around 4 o clock the next morning after the pictures were taken, multiple gunmen broke into the home and brutally killed Pop Smoke.
As you're reading this, you make get collywobbles or even the heebie-jeebies. Don't be afraid ! Please be careful when posting your location or whereabouts on social media.
It's very unfortunate, Pop Smoke never got to see the success of the first album. He reminded me of 50 Cent, with the formula he was following. If Pop Smoke was still alive, he would have been in the top ten artists of this next decade.
In closing, if you want to post where you are, post after the event or engagement and be sure to blur out any addresses or information that can be used to track you down.
